For a fraction of the cost to paint with an instructor oversees, you can enjoy painting local landscapes on a beautiful retreat just outside of Fort Langley with this Vancouver artist workshop!

Under the guidance of acclaimed B.C. artist, Joseph Cross, you will receive personalized coaching on landscape painting along with ideas to enhance your creative process from inspiration to finished piece.

Plein Air sketching on site will begin the process of creating effective larger-format studio paintings. Mr. Cross is adept at instructing in all easily transportable, plein air drawing and painting media, including oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel.

Welcome to Kootenay Lake – Artist Retreat!

Nestled 300 ft from the lake shore, we have access to breathtaking scenery right at the door step. Each day, we will explore a different location along the lake.

Through a series of exercises we will explore plein-air painting techniques that enable us to capture the important elements of a landscape in a short period of time. While doing so we will learn to create paintings with impact by focusing on value sketches and design.

I have often heard students ask: “How do I pick my subject matter and how do I know it will make a good painting?” In this workshop we will explore the most important aspects of a good foundation for a successful painting. Aspects will include choosing your subject, design concept, color schemes and brushwork.
