Delta Grand Prix of Art 2015

Description:

Registered artists of all ages will be allocated a painting location in the village where they will have 3 hours to complete a work of art before returning to our display location at the Ladner Community centre. The completed works will be displayed for the public with cash awards for top prize; runner ups along with other cash prizes.

Young people are also encouraged to participate with dedicated awards, and prizes. Visitors will also be given an opportunity to participating as they are encouraged to enjoy art in action as artist compete against the clock in this grueling 3 hour location painting challenge.

Plein Air Challenge

Time: 7am- 1pm

Location: Leighton Art Centre, 15km south of Calgary

Costs: $45, includes access to property, artist apron, lunch and entry into judged completion.

Description:

Artists are invited to arrive at 7:00am to take advantage of the morning light and explore the scenic beauty of Leighton Centre. For those artists who wish to have their piece judged by an impartial jury, all paintings must be completed by 12:00pm. Artists are responsible for all supplies, easels and other materials.

In true plein air style, the event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared. No refunds will be issued due to cancellation.

Experience the camaraderie with fellow artists and a barbeque lunch following the painting session.

The Stories We Can Tell

The longer one paints outside the more stories one seems to collect. We all have at least one.

Most encounters are no more than a few seconds with a bystander taking the time to come over and ask if they can take a look. This is usually followed by either a pleasant conversation or them jokingly asking where the numbers on the canvas are. Either way it is one of the challenges to taking your art outside.

It was an absolutely beautiful morning and we found an old abandoned truck in the farmers field after asking permission to paint on-site.

Plein Air with Maria Josenhans

Description:  Step out into nature and paint from life with confidence! Participants will learn and practice the essentials for painting outdoors; from how to choose the right materials and location, to laying out a palette and making sense of value, colour and composition. Novice and experienced painters, who work in oil or acrylics, are welcome.

This workshop is offered through the West Vancouver District.
