Biography
Currently an oil painter, Michael King was born and raised in a historical town in central Alberta where his interest in art began at an early age with drawing and wood carving. Painting has now become his creative focus.
He earned his Bachelor of Industrial Design at Carleton University in Ottawa and has pursued a career as a product designer. Michael is the founder of PleinAirBC.com, an associate member of the Oil painters of America, and a member of The Federation of Canadian Artists.
In addition to his design and business experience, Michael is currently on the board of directors of the Fraser Valley Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists as the president and past vice president. He is also a past board member of The Federation of Canadian Artists and the Friends of Leigh Square, in Port Coquitlam.
His instructional workshops explain painting and design in a straightforward, no nonsense manner with proven scientific fundamentals of perception, anatomy and optics along with time proven principles of art. The structure of his workshops has helped many artists grasp various concepts and techniques of painting that were previously difficult for them to understand.
He now resides in Port Coquitlam with his wife and two daughters, where he paints in oils. His work appears in private collections throughout Canada and the United States, and he has been fortunate to win awards in a variety of exhibitions and competitions.
